Thousand young people were walking for SDGs

You could hear Youth voices all around Indonesia last Sunday morning in the streets of 11 cities. More than 1100 young people joined the movement organized by AIESEC – Walk For Sustainable Development Goals and expressed support towards 17 goals which United Nations decided as a crucial ones to achieve till 2030.img_1002

“The points listed in 17 aspects of SDGs are aligned with our national development plan and Goals of President Jokowi (Nawacita). We believe young people, whose amount now reach 25% of our population, are obliged to invite other parties and make them realize the importance of SDGs. In fact, we will be the one who feel the result of this goals 14 years from now,” commented event Nadira Natasya, PR manager of AIESEC Indonesia.

After SDGs became official, United Nations started to work with several independent organizations around the world, one of which AIESEC. The initiative aims to raise awareness on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through the youth voice. Indonesia has a lot of relevance to these targets. Realizing this, AIESEC Indonesia felt the needs to make viral campaigns so they held Walk for SDGs altogether in Jakarta, Yogyakarta, Semarang, Bandung, Solo, Bogor, Malang, Makassar, Lampung, Padang and Palembang.

img_1070

“Campaign is the pre-event of AIESEC main program, named YouthSpeak, which will discuss more deeply about what is SDGs together with the experts, including government,” adding President of AIESEC Indonesia, DIna Sonyah.

AIESEC Indonesia hopes to cooperate with the government as a representative of youth for a better Indonesia in 2030. The question is, does our government ready to work together with youth?

November is a month of actions towards Sustainable Development Goals

November is a month of actions towards Sustainable Development Goals

Exactly one year ago, the United Nations General Assembly adopted the set of 17 Sustainable Development Goals. During this time the initiative Youth4GlobalGoals become one of most powerful movements towards the SDGs. The reach has crossed more than 120 countries and territories around the world.

According to the YouthSpeak Survey results, only 46% of young people know about the SDGs. However, they are the ones who will experience the consequences of implementation of the Goals the most. The level of engagement of young people in the Agenda today will directly result in the state of the world in 2030.

While majority (68%) believes the society will be in better state in 2030, young people still ask the question about who is responsible for implementing the SDGs. In reality, youth still relies on the public sector while it’s partnership between public, private sectors and civil society that will be a key to success this time.

Youth 4 Global Goals campaign was created to mobilise young people to take action towards the SDGs. It has a set of initiatives aimed to make people aware about the Global Goals, understand them and act.

What exactly we are doing to support Sustainable Development Goals?youth_speak_forum_logo

  • Youth Speak Survey: the survey got 7,400 responses from Indonesia Millenials. The result is the voice of Indonesian Youth is giving an opinion about what SDGs they would act upon, what kind of motives and fears they have.
  • Youth Speak Summits:  those events are realized around Indonesia and bring together young and senior leaders to form a space for inspiring conversations and creation of actionable ideas around global issues. We are focusing on global goals 1,4 and 3 (No poverty, Health and Well-being and Quality Education).
  • Youth Speak Projectsconsidering the insights got in the Survey, AIESEC is running the social projects around SDGs, Millennials and region needs. This is how a young person gets an opportunity to directly contribute to an issue he or she relates the most to, while developing the leadership potential. This year, we are going to have grand finale in Jakarta (Youth Speak Forum) where investor and experts are going to choose best project from all four summits in November and support it financially and by coaching as well.

Looking forward to see you in the Summits or Forum.

AIESEC and UNDP – partnership to make a difference

AIESEC and UNDP – partnership to make a difference

As young people, we have the incredible opportunity to shape the future and influence a world we want to live in. To get there, we must understand what’s already happening that will shape our future. 2015 was a year when the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG’s) were adopted by the United Nations and governments of the world set of commitments that will define the next 15 years of global development.

“AIESEC is largest Youth organization in Indonesia, and one of the thing that Youth can contribute are ideas. We face a lot of challenges in these days, we need innovations, we need technology and creative ideas. Engaging with young people can help to identify new solutions for current problems like hunger, poverty or quality education, thats why we are excited about cooperation with AIESEC Indonesia,” with these words launched Francine Pickup, Deputy Country Director for UNDP, cooperation with AIESEC in October 2016.

We are realizing that unless we take it in our hands nothing will change. It is on us to push leaders across governments to businesses to include young people in the decision-making process and to participate in creating a society that meets the needs of young people in Indonesia— millions of us.

AIESEC Indonesia with network of more than 2000 members, is able to achieve big things, create  projects which influence thousands people, but we are not able to make it alone, thats why we are  striving for purposeful partnerships as this one with UNDP.

Claudia Hapsari

Since I was in Elementary School untill right now I have a dream to be a part of United Nation to know and solve many problems of every aspects in our world. And became an OCP (Organize Committee Presdient) of Purwokerto Youth Speak Forum 2016 as an event of Aiesec Indonesia and has coordination with United Nation and having SDG’s as our theme is my first step to open my mindset about our world. Here, I learned a lot of things. I learn about intern and extern things. In intern things I learned on how I have to become a good leader, how can I inspire others, how can I make good relation with others, and from this kind of chance,I also learned so much about my public speaking. The way I explain something to others in persuasive way in order to make them realize about our case,How can I have to be attracktive to ask people to be aware. In the other side I also learned the extern things, such as how I have to looking for people for being my team, how we have good coordination to reach our goal together, how we are looking for other aspect to support our event. And the point is the most valuable things for being an OCP of Youth Speak Forum (YSF) are make me realize & aware that we as a Young Generation we have the biggest responsibility to take care of our world (our society, environment, etc) And I also learn on how we as Young Generation must have a preparation & must be ready to face and solve our problem together to reach our world prosperity.

Ghea Became Committee for Last Year Youth Speak

ghea-copy

Hello! I was Organizing Committee Marketing in YouthSpeak Forum 2016 held by AIESEC in Universitas Andalas and my name is Ghea Ratu Annisa. Along my journey, I never know what is YouthSpeak Forum, but after I chose to involve in the organizing committee for this project, it opened my eyes.

At the time, I just wanted to involve myself as Organizing Committee Marketing because I think I can improve my marketing skill, but as time goes by, I got many lessons out of marketing skill. I know about goals, that being done by the United Nation in the better world or commonly known by SDGs. I know, as youth, we have important roles in transforming the world through our actions.

There, in YouthSpeak Forum, youth can deliver their perspectives or ideas and how to do actions from their own ideas about SDGs. YouthSpeak Forum also can increase their knowledge and awareness about the concern for SDGs itself. It also can help United Nation in their achievement about SDGs in transforming our world to be better. Because of that, i think Youth Speak Forum is important for us, youth.

I wish for the next YouthSpeak Forum can engage more youth to deliver their ideas and do implementation those concrete actions that give impact to society. Let’s Speak Up, Youth!

Demikian saya sampaikan, atas perhatiannya saya ucapkan terima kasih.

Best Regards,

Mr. Asa Perkasa
