International Women’s Day is observed today, on March 8th. Every year, this day celebrates the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. It also marks a call to action for accelerating women’s equality.

In 2021, the International Women’s Day celebration carries the theme “Women in leadership: achieving an equal future in the world of COVID-19.” This theme was initiated by UNDP, which means that women as leaders have the opportunity to play a full role in shaping important decisions to overcome the COVID-19 pandemic.

The COVID-19 pandemic is a challenge for all countries. We need a leader to solve the problems that occur in the world, just like how every organization or company needs a leader to influence others to achieve its goals. Women leaders worldwide have shown their competence and effectiveness in overcoming the current pandemic, thus proving that leadership is not a matter of gender. Leadership is defined by the set of leadership qualities that are inherent or created in person or people who develop themselves to be great leaders.

Today, many companies and organizations have a female leader who shows that this greater gender diversity can be a challenge for women to achieve their rights to achieve gender equality. As time goes by, women continue to develop and reach new milestones in the various spectrum of human activities today. Women are now determined to break the traditional glass ceiling that prohibits them from entering leadership positions even if they have the skills and talents necessary to occupy them.

Why is women’s leadership important?

Women leaders are important because leaders can change the perceived conception about who can lead and what qualities are necessary to have in a leadership position. Leadership by women is vital to increase the pace of societal transformation at home and in the workplace. Women leaders are likely to provide an integrated view of work and family, resulting in an engaged and promising personal and professional future.
